Very friendly staff, lovely and rustic and very clean and presentable room.

          Staff very friendly and helpful

Didn't have what was on the menu. With two mattresses on the beds, one on top of the other felt like you was swimming all night.

The room was comfortable but shabby. The restuarant service was not particularly good, no proper menus, just a sheet of paper which was rolling up around the edges. Food was acceptable but nothing special

Staff made us all feel very welcome! We had three rooms booked and reception, bar, waiters all were friendly and wanted to make our stay pleasurable. They succeded!

It was in the area that I was visiting.

Definately not a 3 star hotel. Room in stable block was tatty and did not have the facilities advertised - phone and alarm radio. Also there were only 3 hangers in the wardrobe. Later, after complaining, a phone, clock and hangers were all supplied, but the phone socket was broken. The newspaper that I ordered did not materialise. I only had breakfasts which were ok, so cannot comment on quality of food in the evening.

Unfortunately we did not have a good experience here in the main due to another guest who was violent and abusive trying to enter our room at 2.30 in the morning. The room did not have a phone to call hotel management and with no mobile coverage my only option was to call the police - who were less than helpful and arrived 2.5 hours later to remove the man from the premisis. There definately need to be phones in the rooms and a night watchman in place or staff on site all the time. The incedent left me extremely traumatised and I was glad that the ancient door to our room which took a sever bashing, the handle ripped off and a chair thrown at it refused to give way!

          Quiet location

Pub shut late and some of the locals were 'loud' bath dripped and room was a little musty but was a very very old building so to be expceted - rooms could do with a coat of paint

A superb old building in a fairly quiet rural setting. Clean bed and table linen. Ample parking.

There was a mix-up with the room as the receptionist semed unsure of our booking and/or his system. Although everything was superficially clean the room was not thoroughly clean. The armchairs provided in our room were worn-out and therefore not very comfortable.

        • Couple
          6.6

Friendliness of the staff, willingness to help and the location for our purposes.

Loved the old history of the place but some of the fittings were very tired- ie carpets and paint / decoration.

The friendly staff and the superb cooked breakfast.

the hotel was well positioned for the event we were attending and was well signposted. Staff were all pleasant.

Confusion about the booking of our rooms. no fresh bread available at breakfast and had to ask for pot of tea rather than use the tea in thermos at breakfast. Noisy parties at hotel both nights of our stay.

The Hotel was built in 1644 and can prove that it its famous visitors really did stay there! I slept in Nelson's room adjacent to Emma Hamiltons, you can also stay in Charles 11 and Nell Gwynes room. The hotel is a mixture of Old & Modern and very quirky the staff are welcoming and its a super place to stay Breakfast is fantastic and great value for money.

There is a poor Wifi & phone signal But if your getting away thats not a problem and you can use your room phone! My only gripe was there was no remote for TV but I was able to use my fingers!

We felt like we were staying on a galleon - creaky stairs, built-in ghost, lovely room full of history and atmosphere and delicious breakfast. The staff were helpful and the hotel was very relaxed.

Unfortunately, the local car rally drove one by one across the gravel car park just below our room rather early on the Sunday morning!

It's an amazing building with real English eccentricity and history

The heating was jammed on and our room and my daughters rooms were absolutely boiling hot.We couldn't have the window open because there was a drunk in the carpark swearing and shouting and smoke from the smokers area came into the room. My husband and I had to move rooms because of it. There was no room service - our room was not tidied or our coffee and tea facility replenished or our cups cleaned.
